It has been more than 10 months since National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi signalled her intention to request that Johannesburg’s prosecution boss, Andrew Chauke, be subjected to an inquiry into his fitness to hold office.

However, President Cyril Ramaphosa, the only one with the authority to order such an inquiry, has yet to make a decision.

In August last year, Batohi told Chauke she would write to Ramaphosa, asking him to suspend him pending the inquiry – but nothing has happened.
