He sees it as very important for Kaizer Chiefs to fight to return to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) competition next season, former midfielder of the team in previous years, Tshepo Molatedi.

Molatedi said just like this, Chiefs came out of the group stage of the Caf Confederation Cup after being defeated by Egypt’s Zamalek 2-1 at the weekend, in Egypt.

Chiefs exiting this stage of the competition means focusing entirely on the Betway Premiership games as they exited the play-off competition, the Nedbank Cup, this morning.

“The way Chiefs played in the group stage of the Caf Confederation was very promising, and there was hope that they could reach the quarterfinals.

However, it is no longer useful to cry over spilled milk because it is clear that the experience is what beat the other players of this team in this competition.

What is important now is for them to gather themselves, focus completely on the remaining Betway Premiership games this season, and strive to finish in a better place than the one they finished in last season,” said Molatedi.

“Actually, they should fight to return to Caf next season as well so that they can get used to playing in this competition, like Sundowns (Mamelodi) which is like playing at home in the Champions League.

They still have 15 games left, so they still have enough chance to fight for a Top 3 finish, which they desperately need.

This season we should not tell the story of the Top 8, we should tell the story of the Top 3, and nothing else.”

Amakhosi are fourth in the Premiership log with 30 points from 15 games. They are eight points behind Orlando Pirates who are on top with 38.

According to statistics, Amakhosi are in contention for the league title with Pirates, Sundowns in second place and Sekhukhune United in third place.

They will return to the field with a home game against Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday, February 24. They will wrap up February with a clash with Orlando Pirates at home in Soweto on February 28 at FNB Stadium, Nasrec.
