Removed judge John Hlophe after he was sworn in as an MK Party MP on Tuesday. (Jan Gerber/News24)

The first judge to be removed in democratic South Africa, John Hlophe, is now the official leader of the opposition in the very House that removed him four months ago – and he now wants to amend the Constitution to end private land ownership.

The MK Party’s 58 MPs were sworn in despite its court challenge to the outcome of the 29 May elections.

The party has approached the Electoral Court to force a re-run of the elections, arguing, through unsubstantiated allegations, the polls were not free and fair.
