The body of a Grade 10 learner from Simon’s Town School who had been reported missing since Tuesday evening was found in the water by the police in the Western Cape’s diving unit at Vishoek on Thursday.
15-year-old Luve Bukwana went to school at 07:10 on Tuesday morning and never returned home.
He apparently left his mobile phone at home in the morning and was last seen in his school clothes.
According to Capt. FC van Wyk, police spokesperson, Luve is originally from Ntantisoweg in Ocean View and was reported missing at 11.50pm on Thursday.
The case has since been transferred to the unit for domestic violence, child protection and sexual offenses (GKS) in Muizenberg for further investigation.
“Inquiries were made in Ocean View, Masiphumelele and Noordhoek. The area was patrolled with family members and the victim’s friends were contacted, but this yielded nothing.”
Family members searched for Luve with Pink Ladies, police officers from Muizenberg and Ocean View, as well as community members and neighborhood watches.
According to a Facebook post by Luve’s family, they started looking for him after they came across a letter he left behind.
However, it is still unclear when and where his family got this letter.
Van Wyk says Luve’s body was found in the water at Vishoek by the diving unit on Thursday at 12:00.
“His body was removed and an inquest was opened,” says Van Wyk.
The school’s governing body expressed their deepest condolences to Luve’s family and friends in a post.
“The loss of a learner is a tragedy that affects our entire school community. Our hearts and thoughts are with Luve’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. We express our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, classmates and staff affected by this loss. We wish you peace and comfort in this sad time. We will always cherish the memories of his beautiful soul. Please keep all those affected in your thoughts and prayers,” the post reads.
