Controversial traditional healer and reality star Gogo Maweni, known from the Mzansi Magic reality TV show Izangoma Zodumo, married her partner, Sabelo Mgube, in a traditional ceremony at his homestead in Maqongqo, outside Pietermaritzburg, on Sunday.
Although Maweni and Mgube had already legally married at Home Affairs two years ago, the couple fortified their union traditionally this past weekend.
Maweni, who has been sharing her journey to becoming Mrs Mgube on Instagram, posted several moments from her big day.
She shared with Daily Sun, “I felt overwhelmed. I don’t want to lie; I was scared. People don’t know that I’m shy, and I had all eyes on me today. I was doing something I didn’t know, but loved being part of it. I’m very happy because we are just making it official.”
The ceremony was rooted in the traditions of the Shembe Church, which Mgube’s family follows. Videos from the event show Maweni dancing and singing alongside her husband and family, fully embracing her new role. Known for her extravagant style, Maweni did not disappoint; her wedding featured a five-tier cake, adding a touch of grandeur to the celebrations.
Reflecting on her relationship with Mgube, she said, “We got married a long time ago, and those who thought they would get in the way of this relationship failed.”
The newlyweds’ traditional wedding marks a new chapter in Maweni’s life. She said she now spends much of her time in KwaZulu-Natal, where she has livestock and plans to continue building her life with Mgube in his home province.
With love and tradition intertwined, Maweni’s wedding day blended cultural celebration and personal milestones, which she shared with her followers and fans across social media.
