A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the rape and sexual assault of two Grade R pupils in Limpopo.
The teen, a Grade 11 pupil, appeared in the Polokwane Children’s Court on Monday and Tuesday on charges of rape and sexual assault in separate incidents.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that the first victim, a six-year-old girl in Grade R, was raped by the accused earlier this month. They were at a school in Dalmada, outside Polokwane, waiting in a teacher’s vehicle who had been transporting them to their homes.
In the second incident, the accused allegedly asked a six-year-old Grade R girl to touch his genitals.
“Both the victims reported the matter to their parents, who later reported it to the school,” said Ledwaba.

Both cases were opened with the police on Friday, and the accused was arrested on Saturday after being handed over by his adoptive mother.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was staying with his adopted [sic] mother, who is also a teacher at the school,” said Ledwaba.
“He was then detained at Polokwane Juvenile Centre until his first appearance.”
The case was postponed until Tuesday for further investigation.
Ledwaba said the provincial police commissioner in Limpopo has strongly condemned the alleged incidents by the accused and called upon teachers and parents to look after their children and immediately report any suspicious abuse to the police without delay.
“Police investigations are still ongoing.”
