The Limpopo Department of Education has conceded that it missed its deadline for the replacement of all dangerous pit toilets in schools, citing budget cuts as the main impediment.
The deadline was initially set for 1 April 2023 but was extended to 1 April 2024.
Limpopo education department spokesperson Mosebjane Kgaffe said due to budget cuts, the department suffered a R182-million reduction in grants meant to address infrastructure backlogs and provide an environment conducive to teaching and learning.
