The State accused the 64 people charged with instigating the July 2021 civil unrest of not taking the criminal case against them seriously after pre-trial proceedings were postponed yet again.

The matter, which has been in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban since January, has now been postponed to the end of July after five of the accused failed to appear in court on Wednesday, citing ill-health and legal representation issues.

Arrest warrants were issued, but the matter was stayed until their next court appearance.
