  • Uyajola 9/9 presenter Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye says he feels relieved and vindicated after the NPA withdrew rape, attempted murder and assault charges against him.
  • Former Muvhango actor Amanda du Pont and Newzroom Afrika presenter Masechaba Khumalo are among those who accused Maarohanye of committing these crimes.
  • According to the NPA, the charges against Maarohanye were withdrawn because “there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution”.

Convicted musician and TV presenter Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye says he is relieved and vindicated following news the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had withdrawn rape, attempted murder and assault charges against him.

Among those who accused him of committing these crimes are former Muvhango actor Amanda du Pont and Newzroom Afrika presenter Masechaba Khumalo.

After the pair spoke out, more unnamed women reportedly came forward with similar allegations.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to my legal team for their unwavering commitment to justice and the truth.

“This verdict brings a sense of relief and vindication not only to me but also to all those who supported me,” the Uyajola 9/9 presenter said on Thursday.

“The outpouring of support has been truly touching, and I am grateful for it.”

The NPA earlier said the Director of Public Prosecution concluded “there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution” after carefully considering the police case docket, prosecutor’s report, and recommendations, along with the information made available to it through representations submitted by the defence.

“As a result, the sensible thing was to withdraw the charges of rape, attempted murder and assault against Maarohanye,” NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said.

“The NPA views all allegations of sexual violence in a serious light and does not hesitate to adopt an aggressive stance towards them but only where there is relevant and admissible evidence that can sustain the charges.

“Unfortunately, in this case, upon further assessment of available evidence, there were no prospects of a successful prosecution, hence the withdrawal of charges.”
