Residents in the Johannesburg CBD are still without power after contractors, who were working to restore the M1 bridge, drilled into a cable on Wednesday.

The bridge suffered more than R20 million in damages after a fire on 1 May, which was caused by cable theft.

On Thursday afternoon, the city said the outage affecting Braamfontein and its surroundings was ongoing and that it “understands the inconvenience this has caused”.
