Residents in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs stopped rush-hour traffic on Tuesday evening in protest over a nine-day water outage in Emmarentia.

This comes as Rand Water increased the water flow from the Eikenhof pump station on Monday evening to 92%, enabling the affected reservoirs and towers to fill up.

The pump station was increased from 83% capacity, where it was meant to remain until 12 July because of planned maintenance on Eikenhof, which began on 22 June.
