The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) asked the Electoral Court to sanction uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leaders, Visvin Reddy and Bonginkosi Education Khanyile, for what it views as “inciteful” comments.
The commission, in a 94-page affidavit by IEC chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo, has specifically asked the court to nullify Reddy’s candidature and to fine him R200 000 for alleged “inciteful” comments he recently made, in contravention of pieces of the Electoral Act’s Section 87 and Section 93.
The IEC also avers that Khanyile, who doesn’t appear on MK Party lists submitted to the IEC, allegedly contravened similar legislation.
