Danie van Rensburg, the actor who at the time was in the popular Rider in Black-photobooks appeared, died at the age of 86 years. Van Rensburg was also a well-known horse trainer.

The news was announced on Edwin Lionel Strydom’s Facebook page, Let’s turn back time. Back in time. Several news sources also reported on Van Rensburg’s death in the meantime.

According to Strydom’s Facebook post, he contacted Van Rensburg’s care home in Mbombela about two years ago.

“He was already a little sick then. He was me hero!” writes Strydom.

Van Rensburg’s iconic horseman character, Vonk de Ridder, made him a well-known actor in the late fifties. These controversial and action-packed Afrikaans photo books were a popular publication until the late eighties.

Van Rensburg worked with Sven Barsby to revive the character in the early 2010s.
