More than a year after the health ombud’s scathing report, which cast a harsh light on the dire conditions at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Johannesburg, little appears to have changed.

The report by Professor Malegapuru Makgoba highlighted overcrowding in wards with pregnant women and women in labour being forced to sleep on the floor or chairs thanks to a shortage of beds.

During a visit by News24 on Monday, several people camped outside the pharmacy, some sitting on blankets, while others were sleeping on the floor outside it.
