Scot Hollie Davidson will become the first woman to take charge of a Test involving the Springboks when they host Portugal in Bloemfontein in July.
The appointment was announced by World Rugby on Tuesday, along with the match officials for June and July internationals.
It is also the first time the Springboks meet Portugal in a Test. Davidson will be joined by Mike Adamson as assistant referee and Andrew McMenemy as TMO for the match at the Free State Stadium on 20 July.
