The leader of the IFP, Mr. Velenkosini Hlabisa, said that the rebellion of the MKP party, took away a piece from their mouth in the 2024 election, as he believes that they would have eaten the people of KwaZulu-Natal, if there was no party led by the former president of the country, Mr. Jacob Zuma.
Hlabisa said that the emergence of the MKP was a little before the election, and the tables were turned. He said this yesterday, during an interview with newspapers underIndependent Media.
MKP was the leader in KwaZulu-Natal as it got 45%, followed by IFP which got 18%. Hlabisa said that if MKP had not appeared, no other party would have opposed them in KwaZulu-Natal.
“When it came to the 2024 elections, the IFP was showing growth. If there was no MKP, we would have won by a landslide. The DA has areas where it cannot grow here in KwaZulu-Natal. The ANC is not doing well in KwaZulu-Natal. That is why it lost the province in the last election. It went from 54% to 17%. All these people who voted for the MKP, would not have voted in the last election.”
Hlabisa said that they were surprised by what MKP did in the election as they did not expect that it would lead in the votes in KwaZulu-Natal.
“What happened in the last election opened our eyes. The MKP went to the election in a disorganized manner. You saw it, it was announced that the MKP would hold an election campaign event, and you hear in the afternoon that the event has been cancelled. Sometimes you heard that its leader did not come to the event. To be able to campaign for the election, you must have party structures. The MKP had no structures.”
Hlabisa said that some people who voted for MKP were too early. He said that some people who voted for MKP were picked up from their homes by vehicles organized by other political parties but they arrived at the polling centers and voted for MKP.
“There were few people who wore MKP t-shirts. All the leaders of the political parties were surprised when the results came out. They wondered where the people who voted for MKP came from because the people who came to the polling stations were brought by them in cars.”
Hlabisa said that there are research companies that said that MKP will win by a landslide.
“We chose not to listen to these companies. We asked where they got what they said.”
