A program like Take your things and leave is not just a series, but an opportunity for people to see a real difference in their life and living space.

So says Henck Conrey, presenter, director and producer of this popular kykNET lifestyle programme. Take your things and leave is a home renovation series on kykNET, with the first season already hitting the box office in 2015.

“I have always liked to tell stories,” says Henck from his luxury home in the east of Pretoria, where he has lived for the past three years.

“Especially stories that are about transformation. Adaptability is very important to make a program sustainable. If you have to look at where the series was and how it looks these days, they are two different pictures.”

At the time, Henck founded the business enterprise RichCon together with his long-time partner Richard Opperman. Together, these two took on the industry, after Henck realized that a career as an actor is somewhat unpredictable.

Although people know him these days as a presenter of programs such as Take your things and leave in Dr. Wehe tested the waters of the entertainment industry as an actor in his early 20s.

He was actually studying law, he says, but got a role in the then through a competition Bay City knocked loose That’s how he met Reynardt Hugo and his agent and later on 7de Laan ended up

“I did a few projects, before I realized that it didn’t offer a very stable income. I started to wonder about how one could stretch it. That’s when Richard and I started our company.”

Henck lived all these years in Johannesburg, before he exchanged the City of Gold for Pretoria’s jacaranda streets a few years ago. Here he found peace, a peace he believes is often linked to how a space looks.

“We all have a rough and busy life. You want to come home and experience tranquility. You want things in your home that are beautiful to you. Whether it’s a lot of things and things, or whether it’s a minimalist space – as long as you’re happy, the matter is right.

“If you want to change your space, you don’t have to think too big either. Start small and work from there.”

He is crazy about his job, he says, especially because he has the opportunity to change people’s lives.

“I’m so blessed to do what I do. I live my passion every single day and can help people at the same time. That’s what life is all about.”

Maroela Media got some renovation tips from Henck, from lighting to photos. Take a look here to hear what advice he has for each color and flavor:
