ZINDALA are both between IFP and MKP who seem to be leading in the race to win the by-election to be held in KwaNongoma Municipality.

The by-election will be held in Ward 17, which was previously held by the NFP.

The IFP and the MKP were the ones who made the noise during the election campaign.

These groups won many wards in KwaZulu-Natal last year, when there was a by-election and these groups intend to continue the struggle as seen in local government elections.

The leader of the IFP, Mr. Velenkosini Hlabisa and the leader of the MKP, Mr. Jacob Zuma, drove the last nail while campaigning for their parties at the weekend.

Hlabisa spoke at the Isiyanqoba event, where he welcomed members from other parties, and said that they want to win tomorrow’s election and another by-election that will be held in two wards in KwaNongoma Municipality.

There will be by-elections in Ward 7 and 20 in KwaNongoma Municipality, next month.

All these wards were managed by NFP. Hlabisa said that winning all three will enable them to manage the municipality independently.

The IFP is currently governing in partnership with other parties due to not having enough seats to govern independently.

“There is no stability in this municipality. We have seen the leadership change many times. That is why we want to win the by-election so that there will be stability. We urge the people of Ward 17, 7 and 20 to vote for the IFP and we will be able to provide them with their needs immediately.”

Hlabisa said they are confident that they will win the by-election.

“Last year we ended well, we won the by-election in Mfolozi Municipality. This year we also started well as we won the by-election in Mzumbe Municipality.”

Zuma welcomed a number of members from other parties.

Among those welcomed by Zuma, there is one who has been the mayor of KwaNongoma Municipality, Mr Mshangane Ndabandaba.

Ndababandaba resigned from the NFP and from being a councilor last week.

MKP KwaZulu-Natal Chairman, Mr Willies Mchunu, said they want to win in all three wards.

“Even if we didn’t win this election, we are sure that when the local government elections come, the MKP will be on the rise here in Nongoma, and we will win. There will be a change here in Nongoma that will surprise people.”

NFP leaders were not seen during the campaign.

The ANC has sent members of the executive committee, including Dr Zweli Mkhize, to campaign for the upcoming elections.
