An uproar broke out when the CEO of AfriForum, Mr. Kallie Kriel, revealed that he had a meeting with MK Party President, Mr. Jacob Zuma in Durban this week.

Kriel caused a stir by circulating a photo of himself shaking hands with Zuma. In the text accompanying the photo, Kriel explained how the meeting went and what they discussed with this leader who was once the president of the country under the ANC.

“Today I had a constructive meeting with former president Jacob Zuma in Durban. We discussed topics such as the importance of mother tongue education, the promotion of mutual respect among communities that still believe in traditions, the development of agriculture in traditional communities and section 235 of the South African Constitution. There are many meetings to come,” Kriel wrote.

Continuing, Kriel said that they, as a public organization, practice politics but work for the future generation. He said they are committed to building a brighter future for the next generation and communicating with all the people of this country, even those who disagree with them.

“We are committed to finding a solution to the challenges that plague this country and all the people in it.” said Kriel.

MK Party spokesperson Mr. Nhlamulo Ndhlela told eNCA that it was Kriel who initiated the plans for this meeting.

“Many things were discussed. Kriel then said that he acknowledges Mkhonto we Sizwe Party as a strong organization that can contribute to this country and he sees the need for, before or after the local government elections, to meet and have discussions,” said Ndhla.

Opinions were divided in this meeting as there were those who complained that MKP always calls others as salesmen but now its leader is negotiating with an organization that does not hide its racism and the United States is talking bad about the country.

However, the majority of MKP supporters were mocking this story, noting that AfriForum recognizes that it is their organization that will govern the country.

This is not the first time that Zuma has met with leaders of Boer organizations. From 2009 to 2014, he met with Boer organizations, including the Boer-Afrikaner Volksraad, talking about independence. Recently he met Boers, he even sang his song My Machine.
