In an almost comical twist of fate, a high-stakes cash-in-transit heist in Bloemfontein turned into a slapstick saga of slip-ups and shootouts.
On 4 September 2020, two ambitious criminals – Ignatious Sibusiso Mashinini and Sello Lucky Serumula – decided to make a cash withdrawal the hard way – by ramming into an armoured van and using explosives to access the cash.
The two stole firearms belonging to security personnel and used explosives to blast open a safe.
