Possibly the greatest Gatsby in South Africa contained lettuce, tomatoes, onion, slap chips, polony, viennas, russians, patties, masala steak, chicken fillets, calamari strips and fried eggs.

A Gatsby so great it may be a record fed 120 patrons at Annies Ladies Bar after being prepared in Stikland, Bellville last night (Saturday, 29 June).

Those responsible for this massive meal are bar owners Annie Redelinghuys, her husband, Joe, and chef Michael Steyn.

This giant sub tipped the scale at a whopping 63kg, ranged about 4m in length and was all held together by four one-meter-long buns specially baked for the occasion.

The Redelinghuys couple believe this is a South African (or even world) record for the biggest Gatsby ever created, but the attempt wasn’t independently  adjudicated or measured by an official standard. TygerBurger‘s attempts to find another record were unsuccessful

The couple marked their attempt with a great feast shared with over 100 witnesses, on the house. This is the third record-breaking milestone meal dished up by Annies, but the first attempt at a Gatsby.

Joe Redlinghuys, his wife Annie and Michael Steyn created the Gatsby, which weighed in at 63kg at Annies Ladies Bar in Stikland on Saturday 29 June.

In 2019, they created what they say is the biggest burger in the land, which racked up a weight of 79,5kg and packed a 40kg patty, 800mm in diameter with a homemade bun.

Their second biggest burger consisted of two 40kg patties, breaking the scale at 123kg.
