The kidnapping trial of a Gqeberha biokineticist, Riana Pretorius, took a dramatic turn in court on Thursday when the defence accused her ex-boyfriend of being in cahoots with the victim to “extort money”.

Carel du Preez, who spent his second day in a row on the witness stand in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, did not take kindly to the accusation.

He said it would be disappointing if that was the only argument the defence had.
