After the collapse of a five-storey building, which had been under construction in George, Western Cape, there were scenes of both joy and despair.

While 37 construction workers were pulled out of the rubble, the families of trapped colleagues were agonisingly waiting for news of their loved ones.

From his bed in a George hospital on Wednesday, electrician, Delvin Safers, 29, told News24 he was grateful to be alive, adding that he was desperate to see his son.
