The Gauteng Department of Health has welcomed the conviction of a man who robbed, kidnapped, and hijacked an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crew. 

Department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba said the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court sentenced 25-year-old Matome Tumi Sepesu on Wednesday. 

Modiba added the EMS crew was hijacked, kidnapped, assaulted, and robbed of their personal cellphones and equipment while responding to what appeared to be a distress call in Nellmapius, Pretoria, in July 2023.
