A strong cold front will hit the Western Cape on Sunday, after which it will spread further eastwards to the southern areas and is expected to result in widespread disruptive rain, gale-force winds, rough sea conditions and bitter cold.

The cold front follows shortly on the heels of the severe weather conditions caused by a cut-off low pressure system.

The South African Weather Service warns of disruptive rain over the western areas of the Western Cape from Sunday to Tuesday, with all indications that serious flooding can be expected in, among other places, Cape Town, the Cape Winelands and the Overberg.

Rain of 100 mm to 200 mm is possible in some areas, with a major impact on infrastructure, roads and especially vulnerable communities.

Very cold and windy conditions are expected across the western interior of the country. Gale force winds and rough sea conditions are also expected on the Cape Western and southern coastal region from Sunday afternoon.
