Four suspects have been shot and killed during a confrontation with police in Milnerton, Cape Town.

Another four are in hospital, according to national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

Mathe said the eight people were “allegedly on their way to commit a mass shooting”.

Officers recovered five firearms from the scene, she added.

News24 understands that Western Cape police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembekile Patekile is on the scene.

The shooting comes at a time when police top brass are in Cape Town for the release of crime statistics.
