  • Phindile Gwala’s attendance at the swearing-in ceremony for MK Party members on Tuesday sparked speculation that she was a newly appointed member of Parliament.
  • However, her representative addressed the speculation, saying the former Muvhango actor was only there as a “gesture of support”.
  • Last month, Gwala shared a snap of herself graduating from Mancosa, where she obtained a BCom degree.

Former Muvhango actor and recent graduate Phindile Gwala was not among the recently founded MK Party members sworn in as members of Parliament on Tuesday.

This after the actor was spotted in attendance at the swearing-in ceremony, and people, based on photos circulated on social media, concluded that she was being sworn in as a member of parliament for the political party.

However, her representative, Thanduxolo Jindela, quickly addressed the speculation, saying Gwala was only in attendance “as a gesture of support” to Bishop Nokwethemba Mtsweni, who is a member of the MK Party.

“Phindile Gwala accompanied Bishop Nokwethemba, a member of the MK Party and a close friend and spiritual mother, to the swearing-in ceremony as a gesture of support,” her representatives said in a statement.

“We would like to categorically state that Phindile Gwala was not the individual being sworn in at the ceremony. While we appreciate the interest and support, we kindly request that this clarification be noted to avoid any further misunderstanding.”

Gwala previously made headlines last month when she shared a snap from her graduation at Mancosa. The actor said she obtained a BCom degree with 10 distinctions.

“This has been a long road. The milestone achieved, I am grateful, and to God be the glory for His mercies endure forever,” she wrote in the caption of the photo.
