Five people suspected of illegally hunting rhinos were shot dead during a shootout with the police in Hluhluwe on Saturday night.
The police gathered intelligence information that the suspects were traveling on the R618 road towards the park. On this road, there was a road block and cars were searched, and when the suspects arrived at this place, there was a wave of handshakes between the police and the suspects.
Five suspects were shot dead, a hunting rifle with a silencer and two revolvers were found. No police officer was injured during the shootout.
