The North West recorded 51 deaths and 72 crashes by 25 December, according to statistics released by the provincial transport department.
By Christmas Day, the road death toll in the North West had reached 51 and the number of accidents in the province stood at 72 – most of which occurred between 18:00 and midnight, the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management has revealed in a statement.
Not a single accident involving multiple deaths was recorded, it said.
The Ngaka Modiri Molema District recorded 40 of the 72 crashes.
