Fadiel Adams will be remanded in custody until next week after appearing briefly at the Pinetown KwaZulu-Natal Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Adams, a Member of Parliament and leader of the National Colored Congress (NCC), has been formally charged with two counts of obstruction of justice and three counts of fraud.

Adams was arrested on Tuesday in Cape Town and is facing criminal charges for allegedly interfering with the murder of Sindiso Magaqa, who was killed in 2017.

The State says that Adams acted against the law by pretending to be a Member of Parliament, and visited the suspect, Sibusiso Ncengwa, in the Magaqa murder case.

In 2024, Adams went to Durban and it is suspected that he was escorted by the police with green lights and took him to the Westville Correctional Facility to meet the suspects. The police said that the trip happened while they were still investigating the matter, and the matter is now in court.

As he entered the courtroom today, Adams kissed his mother’s forehead

The State opposes Adams’ release, stating that they need to prepare for bail. Some of the necessary and important information in the bail application should be examined and analyzed by the information that appeared in Adams’ press conference, which was described as important.

“He clearly said that he is running away with him. We can describe this as a person running away from the law. He continued to say; “if you want to find me, you can come to find me. Or if you want to find me, arrest me,” this indicates arresting me if you can.

He will return to court on May 13, 2026, to apply for bail.
