Fadiel Adams, leader of the National Colored Congress (NCC), was granted bail of R10 000 in the Magistrate’s Court in Pinetown on Friday.

Adams (49) appeared in court for the first time earlier this month on charges of fraud and obstruction of justice.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Adams faces three charges of fraud and two charges of obstructing the legal process.

The court imposed strict bail conditions. Among other things, Adams may not communicate with witnesses.

“This includes members of the police, the Durban Metropolitan Police, employees of the Department of Correctional Services and members of the task force for political murders,” said Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, regional spokesperson for the NPA in KwaZulu-Natal.

Adams must also report in person to Mitchells Plain police twice a week.

Furthermore, he must live at the addresses provided to the court and notify the investigating officer in advance if he changes address.

According to the bail conditions, Adams must also get prior permission from the investigating officer if he wants to travel outside Cape Town.

“If he has to travel for work purposes, he must provide the relevant authorization to the investigating officer and obtain prior permission,” said Ramkisson-Kara.

The case was adjourned until August 14.
