Ekurhuleni’s new executive mayor, the ANC’s Nkosindiphile Doctor Xhakaza, gave his inaugural State of the City Address (SOCA) on Tuesday morning.
Xhakaza was elected on 11 April during an extraordinary council meeting after former mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana, from the African Independent Congress, was ousted on 28 March. The change in leadership threatened to split the ANC and EFF coalition in the city, but that has not happened.
On Tuesday, the City adopted the mantra “A Responsive City Working with Agility to Restore Service Delivery to the People”, Xhakaza said to applause from those seated in the gallery.
