Ekurhuleni Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana has been voted out of office in a motion of no confidence.
The motion was passed with 47 yes votes and 32 against. The ANC and the DA abstained from the vote.
The motion of no confidence was brought by ActionSA.
The council must wait seven days to vote in another mayor.
