Eight detainees escaped from the holding cells of a police station in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.

The eight escaped from the holding cells of the Isolation Police Station in the Maluti area, said Brig. Police spokesman Nobuntu Gantana said.

“The circumstances of the incident form part of the investigation.” The eight have been identified as Asiphe Yawu, Abraham Gobozi, Kwanele Mzala, Siphelele Mkhulisi, Thabo Nana, Siphelele Nondolo, Anele Ludidi and Sinethemba Mazendala.

“An investigation is also underway into whether the escape was facilitated by others. Members of the public are warned not to try to apprehend the escapees themselves, as they are dangerous criminals.”
