An on-duty Eastern Cape police officer shot his girlfriend and her cousin dead at a tavern in Wesley in Ngqushwa on Sunday night before speeding away from the scene and later turning the gun on himself in Port Alfred.

“It is alleged that on Sunday evening at 20:00, while on duty, a 34-year-old constable from SAPS Bell entered a local tavern in Wesley location in Bell and aggressively demanded that she (his girlfriend) accompany him outside,” provincial police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.

The woman’s cousin followed her outside.
