OpenAI Chairman Brett Taylor has asked board members attending board meetings to prepare documents by hand-writing themselves rather than using AI tools. According to Taylor, writing without the help of AI deepens the ideas. Additionally, it allows ‘strategic issues’ to be discussed in the board room rather than data review.
thoughts become deeper and clearer
Taylor is also the former co-CEO of Salesforce and co-founder of AI startup Sierra. He says that writing without AI allows board members to make their thoughts more clear. He also feels that board members should read important points about the meeting ahead of time so that people’s attention remains on strategic issues instead of reviewing data for the first time in the meeting.
Taylor’s thoughts match with these
Taylor’s thinking is similar to the memo meetings of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. But the difference is that unlike Taylor, Bezos liked big memos of six pages, whereas Taylor likes to write short ones. He says that small documents are written thoughtfully. If I had more time, I would write a shorter letter.
There was also talk on AI use
Taylor does not promote the use of AI in board preparation, but he recognizes the need and potential of AI in high-stakes cases. He thinks regulators may need AI agents to oversee some processes. Giving his views on the AI bubble last month, OpenAI’s chairman said that artificial intelligence is “probably” a bubble and that the market can be expected to improve in the coming years.
