Vitality Health International Africa, Discovery’s health insurance business focused on expanding in the rest of the continent, believes there are 13 markets in sub-Saharan Africa where its model could be viable.

The company already offers health insurance through partnerships with local insurers in seven African markets, namely Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, and the DRC.

However, CEO Emma Knox says its due diligence shows there are six more countries where its reinsurance-based model could be successful: Mauritius, Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Angola, and Uganda.
