Secretary to Parliament Xolile George. (Jan Gerber/News24)

In its determination to get answers, the DA has tabled a motion for the establishment of an ad hoc joint committee to investigate claims that the salary of Secretary to Parliament, Xolile George, was inflated by nearly 70% shortly after his appointment.

It is alleged that the salary was inflated by the executive authority of Parliament, who was National Assembly (NA) Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula at the time and chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Amos Masondo, from an advertised R2.6 million to a whopping R4.4 million in less than a year.

DA chief whip Siviwe Gwarube announced the DA’s motion on Thursday and added that details relating to George’s salary were “vague”.
