The decision comes amid severe weather battering the Mother City, with heavy rains and fierce winds reaching up to 67km/h making conditions unsafe for the match to go ahead.
The match has now been set to take place on Wednesday at the same venue, with kick-off scheduled at 18:00.
The other MTN8 semi-final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch kicks off at 19:00 at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
“The MTN8 semi-final first leg between Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates, originally scheduled for this evening at Cape Town Stadium, has been postponed to Wednesday, 28 August 2024, at 18:00 due to severe weather conditions in the Western Cape,” the Premier Soccer League announced in a statement on Tuesday.
“The decision to postpone the match was made following the advice from the City of Cape Town authorities and stadium management, who reported gale force winds averaging speeds of 67km/h. The adverse weather has led to collapsed buildings, blocked roads due to fallen trees, and impacted stadium facilities.
“Tickets purchased for today’s match will remain valid for the rescheduled fixture.”

The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre staff have been on high alert as severe weather conditions grip the area.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple warnings, including alerts for heavy rainfall and damaging winds across parts of the Western Province.
On Tuesday morning, strong winds tore through Cape Town, causing a massive metal structure at the entrance of Access Park shopping centre in Kenilworth to collapse.
