A legal association has taken the Limpopo Judge President to task over alleged sexist statements he made about a female colleague.

The Amalgamated Lawyers Association (ALA) Women’s Chapter has lodged a complaint with the Judicial Conduct Committee (JCC) against Limpopo High Court Judge President George Phatudi saying it had learnt of “the deplorable and demeaning statement purportedly uttered by Phatudi” about Deputy Judge President Violet Semenya.

The ALA alleges that in June 2021, Phatudi referred to his now deputy, Semenya, as “a useless woman” and a “mere magistrate who did not deserve to be elevated to the position of deputy judge president of the Limpopo Division of the High Court, let alone a judge”.
