The City of Cape Town has put up a R100 000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest of gunmen who allegedly shot dead two security guards contracted by the City in Philippi.

The guards were escorting City staff to do repairs on a sewer pipe in Phola Park on Tuesday.

While the repair team was gathering tools and inspecting the broken pipe, two armed men are said to have approached the City vehicle and that of the security guards, and another two assailants headed towards a toilet block in the vicinity. The gunmen then opened fire, killing the guards.
