Cape Town City (1) 1

Baroka FC (0) 0

CAPE Town City put themselves in a good position to secure a place in the PSL Promotion Play-Offs by beating Baroka FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship match played at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, yesterday afternoon.

Gabriel Amato’s goal in the first half in the 22nd minute secured the three important points for this Cape Town team that is struggling to return to the Betway Premiership.

As Kruger United waits for their final game of the season next Sunday, to be officially crowned champions of the Motsepe Championship, the competition is between City, Milford FC, Hungry Lions and Casric Stars, to fight for a place in the Play-Offs.

All three teams in contention for a place in the Play-Offs returned with full points, as Milford beat the University of Pretoria 2-0 at the Mhlathuze Sports Complex, Richard Bay, while Hungry Lions defeated Highbury FC 4-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Gqeberh.

Casric beat Upington City 2-0 at the Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington.

The two teams that will finish in second and third place will play the team that finished in 15th place in the Premiership table.

Milford are in second place with 53 points, followed by City in third and fourth place with 51 points equally apart, with Casric in fifth with 49

This means that next Sunday’s games will be difficult for the teams fighting to go to the Play-Offs.

The Citizens, coached by Jan Vreman and with many players who have experience playing in the Premiership, will wrap up the season with an away game against Leicesterford City on Sunday, at Dobsonville Stadium, Soweto.

Milford coached by Xanti Pupuma wraps up the season with an away match against Hungry Lions, Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs, Upington, Casric wraps up against Gomora United at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, KwaMhlanga.

And Kruger, who beat Gomora 1-0 yesterday, will wrap up with a home game against The Bees FC at Nyamazane Stadium, where they will be presented with their Motsepe Championship trophy.

And on the other hand, the province of Limpopo is surrounded by a dark cloud as both the two teams in this province have been relegated, namely Baroka FC and Black Leopards.

In addition to the Leopards’ 2-1 victory against Venda FC yesterday, at Thohoyandou Stadium, but that did not help because of the number of points.

Motsepe Foundation Championship results:

The Bees 1-1 Leicesterford City; Black Leopards 2-1 Venda FC; Cape Town City 1-0 Baroka; Upington City 0-2 Casric Stars; Highbury 0-4 Hungry Lions; Milford FC 2-0 Univ. of Pretoria; Gomora 0-1 Kruger United; Midlands Wanderers 1-1 Lerumo Lions
