BONA let themselves down by making big mistakes when they were defeated by TS Galaxy 2-0 in the Last 16 match of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday afternoon, coach of Mamelodi Sundowns Miguel Cardoso.

The coach made 10 changes to the team that started the game at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, KwaMhlanga.

Midfielder Nuno Santos was the only one to start this midweek Betway Premiership match against Orlando Pirates.

Going into the break, the Rockets already had a two-goal lead. The first was placed in the middle by Siphamandla Ngwenya following a mistake made by Divine Lunga in the back, the second was a penalty scored by Junior Zindoga.

Although Cardoso made changes in the second half, his team failed to score the goals they needed.

“We made a bad mistake by passing to their player, they got the first goal, and we also created a penalty that could have been avoided. There is not much else I can say,” said Cardoso speaking to SABC Sport at the end of the game.

“We had a lot of chances to score goals, clear chances, but we didn’t use them. We must take responsibility for this result. We cannot make mistakes like these in this tournament because once you are out there is no way to come back. We have been punished for our mistakes.

“It forced us to start other players and there was no way for us to quickly include those who were on the bench. However, we expected that those who started understood the importance of the game but unfortunately it seems that some of them did not get the message properly.

“We have to accept the result, admit the mistakes, and move on.”

Sundowns will prepare for the Betway Premiership match against MaZulu FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
