The Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal have launched an investigation into allegations eThekwini municipal manager Musa Mbhele took bribes from a contractor, some of which he used to build a sprawling mansion in the upmarket suburb of Cowies Hill.

An affidavit deposed in support of the criminal case against Mbhele revealed he allegedly took bribes – evidence showed at least two payments totalling R50 000 allegedly paid to his account – from a service provider contracted to the metro.
