A 49-year-old woman and a 5-year-old child were gunned down at a park in Eerste River, Cape Town, on Monday evening.
Four other people were injured during the same attack.
The victims were shot at a park on Spandau Road in Spandau Village.
The woman was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital while the child later died in hospital, Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said.
A 19-year-old woman, a 6-year-old and two 17-year-olds also sustained gunshot wounds.
“Kleinvlei police responded to a complaint of a shooting at a recreational park and, upon arrival on the scene, they found victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.
“The victims were taken to a medical facility for medical treatment, where the 49-year-old victim was declared deceased due to injuries sustained,” said Twigg.

He added that the circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation.
“The motive for the attack is yet to be determined. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested.”
Police are investigating murder and attempted murder cases.
