Three more people joined Ralph Stanfield and his wife Nicole Johnson in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday in a case that has grown to include the “construction mafia” murder of government housing official Wendy Kloppers, a hit on a policeman, and the shooting of an alleged gang leader from Kraaifontein.

Stanfield was bent over as he hobbled into court, with Johnson behind him trying to assist him to an extra bench brought in to accommodate the expanding group of accused. It is understood that he is suffering from severe back pain, and, according to his lawyer, has not eaten anything since Wednesday.

Michael Morris, Chavonne McNab and Sharazaadht Essop made their first appearance on Thursday, joining Stanfield, Johnson, Johannes “Bal” Abrahams, Denver Booysen, Jonathan Cloete, Shakeel Pelston, Abraham Wilson, Warren-Lee Dennis and Imtiyaaz Sedick.
