The Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has decided to put the brakes on communicating deaths arising from traditional circumcision until the end of the winter season.
The decision is the first of its kind as the department previously led campaigns to communicate with the media on awareness campaigns, rescue operations and deaths of initiates in the province.
It also previously issued media statements each initiation season to communicate its concerns and campaigns about traditional circumcision.
