The popular DJ and producer, who is not new to music industry beef, took to social media on Tuesday to address the issue and defend himself and fellow artist Mas Musiq.
Maphorisa accused Samthing Soweto of not contributing enough to the song and of bullying Mas Musiq in the process.
He said in his livestream, “It was recorded in my house. He owns the whole master… if you want to cancel a person, you can cancel me, and I’ll bounce back. I’m strong; I believe in myself. But Mas Musiq didn’t do anything in this situation. He tried his level best to drop this song, and the young man has been frustrated because Samthing Soweto doesn’t know how to handle his business.”
Maphorisa criticised both Samthing Soweto and Amapiano star Sir Trill, stating that they are problematic when managing the business side of the music industry.
Maphorisa said, “Why we don’t [have a] relationship with him is because of [his] attitude and not meeting the standard… we have a problem of sharing — he wants to take everything.”
Samthing Soweto has also addressed the situation on his social media, expressing his frustration about releasing the song without his knowledge.
Musician Shebeshxt joined in the debacle; he claimed during an interview on L-Tido’s podcast that DJ Maphorisa failed to inform him of the business aspects of their collaborative song Twerka before and after recording it.
The Limpopo-born rapper alleged that Maphorisa did not provide him with a songwriter split sheet to sign for the track, which also features Xduppy.
DJ Maphorisa keeps showing us he’s the real villain but we ignore it because we like his music. At some point we need to cancel him. https://t.co/8QlvicOg6U

The controversy had fans rallying behind Samthing Soweto and asking each other to report the song on Apple Music for missing a credit.
Fixing the country, we can’t allow this to happen over and over. Our artists have been abused by these hooligans. We next need to not even download or attend Dj Maphorisa’s events. pic.twitter.com/UncXY1OPGp
