That South Africa was ranked among the 10 worst destinations in the world for mining investment was a factoid that was prominently peppered in speeches delivered at the Mining Indaba this week.Curiously, however, it also came under scrutiny from industry which says no mining companies operating in South Africa were in fact surveyed in obtaining the damning result.The Fraser Institute’s annual survey of mining companies, which measures the investment attractiveness of various mining jurisdictions, ranked South Africa 75th out of 84 countries included in its Investment Attractiveness Index.
