A VIP protector for the cash-strapped Buffalo City metro in the Eastern Cape claimed 380 hours of overtime, worth R100 663.64, in a single month.

This despite the municipality’s overtime policy that no employee is allowed to be remunerated for overtime for more than 40 hours per month.

The massive overtime claims by VIP protectors were revealed during the council meeting at East London City Hall on Wednesday, which shocked politicians, including ANC mayor Princess Faku.
